Prayer & Fasting

Why do we fast?

Fasting helps us center our hearts on God by setting aside distractions and seeking Him intentionally. It’s a way to deepen our dependence on God, align our will with His, and grow spiritually as we seek His guidance and presence.

What is fasting?

Fasting is the act of intentionally abstaining from certain things—often food, but it could also be technology, entertainment, or other activities—for a set time to focus on prayer and worship. It’s not about deprivation but about redirecting our attention to Christ, creating space to hear from Him and grow in our faith.

There are four types of fasting:

Total Fast

Abstaining from eating any food with light juices or water.

Daniel Fast

A selective fast taken from Daniel 10:3, abstaining from all meat, sugar, bread and any processed foods.

Partial Fast

Total fasting during periods of the day, such as Sun-Up to Sun- Down or 7am to 5pm.

Soul Fast

Fasting from certain behaviors and habits such as social media use, screen time, shopping or even sexual intimacy.
